Looe Festival Of Words

When: 1st to the 6th of October

The Looe Festival of Words is a vibrant new event for 2024, celebrating the magic of words with a variety of activities for readers, writers, and anyone who loves storytelling. This free festival features workshops, crafts, walks, storytelling sessions, a Book Fair, and much more. Organised by the Looe Development Trust, it’s a great way to immerse yourself in the literary arts.

Spoken Excursions, With Caleb Barron

When: 4th of October
Where: Kilminorth Woods

Spoken Excursions with Caleb Barron is an engaging spoken word poetry workshop set in the beautiful Kilminorth Woods. During this 5km walk, you’ll explore your surroundings while transforming your immediate responses into carefully crafted poems. Whether you’re an experienced writer or completely new to poetry, this workshop welcomes all adults to connect with nature and creativity. 

No booking is required and the event starts at 10 am lasting till 12:30 pm, everyone involved will meet at the entrance to Kilminorth Woods, past Millpool Car Park.

Expect uneven paths, steep hills, and rough terrain, so be sure to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Bring a notepad and pen, although writing materials will also be provided. Caleb Barron, a talented writer, poet, and facilitator based in Looe, will guide you through this experience.

Poetry On The Rocks

When: 5th of October
Where: Hannafore Beach

Poetry On The Rocks, part of the Looe Festival of Words, offers a unique blend of marine exploration and creative expression hosted by the Looe Marine Conservation Group. On Saturday, 5th October, from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, participants will explore the rockpools of Hannafore, West Looe, discovering fascinating sea creatures and immersing themselves in the natural beauty of the rocky shore.

After an hour of guided exploration, a relaxed poetry workshop on the beach will follow, overlooking Looe Island. Whether you’re a seasoned poet or just starting, this workshop is open to all, providing support and inspiration for creative expression. No booking is required.

Cornwall Rocks 2024

When: 4th to the 6th of October
Where: Tencreek Holiday Park

Cornwall Rocks 2024 is set to rock Looe from Friday, October 4th to Sunday, October 6th, 2024 at Tencreek Holiday Park. This annual music festival will feature an incredible lineup of some of the UK’s best rock and metal bands. Attendees can expect to see performances by renowned acts such as Miguel Montalban and The Southern Vultures, Brave Rival, Blacktop Deluxe, Departed, Dare, Collateral, Sons of Liberty, and Skam.

With its intimate atmosphere, Cornwall Rocks 2024 promises an unforgettable experience for rock fans, drawing music lovers from across the UK to enjoy decades of British rock history. Beat At Tencreek 60’s Weekend

Also at Tencreek Holiday Park, Beat At Tencreek 60’s Weekend is coming to Tencreek Holiday Park from 11th – 13th October 2024, offering a fun-filled celebration of the unforgettable sounds of the 60s. Dance the night away to live performances from The Dreamers, The Revolvers, and other fantastic acts. With tickets starting at just £25, it’s an incredible value for a weekend packed with retro music and good vibes.

Yin & Resorative Yoga

When: 20th of October
Where: The Millpool Centre

Yin & Restorative Yoga Workshop is a perfect opportunity to nurture your body and mind with a calming, grounding practice. Join Kerry for this 2.5-hour session at the Millpool Centre in Looe, where you’ll experience a soothing Yin yoga practice aimed at healing and strengthening. With 30 years of experience, Kerry, certified by Yoga Alliance UK and OCR UK, creates a welcoming and supportive environment.

The workshop includes props and refreshments, but be sure to bring your own mat, mug, blanket, and pillow. Comfortable attire like pyjamas and bed socks is encouraged!

Mevagissey Shanty Festival

When: 11th to the 13th of October
Where: Various locations around Mevagissey

The Mevagissey Shanty Festival, founded in 2019 by Tristan Netherton of the Stuns’ls Shanty Group, is a joyful celebration of maritime shanty singing and local heritage. Now in its fifth year, the festival has become a beloved event, raising over £10,000 for local causes while boosting off-peak commerce and community spirit.

Supported by Keltek Brewery and the Mevagissey Harbour Board, the festival features 440 singers and promotes sustainability through education and community involvement. It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves maritime traditions and community-driven events!

The Dark Gathering 2024

When: 26th of October
Where: Mayfair Car Park, Tintagel

The Dark Gathering 2024 is a Halloween folk spectacular celebrating the occult and Cornish folklore. Held in the mystical village of Tintagel on Saturday, 26th October 2024, from 3 pm until late, this event marks its 10th anniversary in style. Once hosted in Boscastle, the Gathering is now firmly rooted in Tintagel, a village known for its rich history and the famous Tintagel Castle.

The event takes place at The Mayfair car park, between the Mayfair gift shop and the Old School Hall on Fore Street, and offers an unforgettable afternoon and evening of strange and wonderful performances. Expect energetic Morris dancers, folky musicians, and an embrace of the weird and magical in this unique celebration.
